Request For Info on Automated GUI testing

I work for a company that provides services for the US Government. I am
responsible for the management and actual testing of custom made Microsoft
based windows applications that are used by a limited number Government
customers. Our Small Functional/Technical testing community is comprised
mostly of retired military with operational vice technical expertise. We
do mostly what is considered "black box" testing of applications.
We are currently in the test planning stages for a suite of applications
that are essentially MS Windows GUI applications. Our environment is
Microsoft XP/Server 2003 and we fully expect to migrate to the next
generation of Microsoft products. Programming languages for the individual
applications run the gamut, from ANSI and Visual C/C++, to .NET and Java.
We are looking for a system of automating and storing test results and
scripts that is user friendly for testers whose expertise is more oriented
on the operational vice technical side. In other words, automated GUI
testing playbacks that are easily editable and repeatable. (please, keep
laughter to a minimum!)
I am also interested in reference to any articles (Consumer reports type
evaluation) which have evaluated any tools side-by-side.
I've started some research and am interested in some user feedback on a few
applications. They are as follows:
1) Winrunner/Quicktest Pro(Mercury (HP?))
2) Segue SilkTest
3) Compuware DevPartner Studio Enterprise Edition
4) AutoTester One
5) TestDrive-Gold (Original Software)
6) TestSmith
Would appreciate any feedback on the above software (or suggestions for
additional applications), including comments on the quality of customer
service agreements/Support and training.
Thanks in advance
ER White
