As the names suggest -- mecury world is a vendor conference where you
hear about all Mercury products. I am afraid - lots of marketing
oriented stuff. For those like you who seem to be concentrating on QTP
and other mercury related products - Mercury world may not be a bad
idea - but be patient and have lots of tolerance of Marketing pitches
.....

As far as STAR kind of conferences- they are general Testing
conferences where in addition to Automation tools and all other testing
topics are presented and discussed. So would be useful for any Test
professional. It is indeed fact all conferences are mainly funded and
supported by Tool vendors - you in way hear about some tool stuff here
also but since it is not for one vendor - you will come to know ( at
least marketing stuff) of other tool vendors ....

So it is what you want hear - Go for Mercury if you want to hear
Mercury products and their advances and Go for STAR if you want to hear
about general testing topics and some tool information.

In general, I have found that conference themselves are not a place to
learn - they serve the purpose of buidling and expanding your
professional network and get know about others who share same interests
as you. you can contact the speaker after the conference and establish
a link....
