Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced bulk email program, which will do
the job?

As a moderator bulk email programs can get under my skin. That's not so
much for the purposes of client communication that you have in mind, but
rather the spammers who use these programs. Anyway - this program "Group
Mail" is highly recommended and comes with a stamp of approval from
Lockerknome amongst others:

What gets under my skin is receiving email, including newsletters, in
html. HTML is classed as "unfriendly" and I even have my system set to
either strip it, or dump it into the junk folder to get purged at the
end of the day. There are a few I allow through, but with spambots
sending millions of html garbage to the inbox, the junk folder sees
alot of action.
