OK fine. Then just calculate the area of the box as deltaX * deltaY.
But what's all that stuff about circles, tangents, standard
deviations, and intensities about? Do you want to threshold the
object within the box and find the area of ONLY the bright stuff? If
so, then this code that I posted might help you.
