Controlling Excel in Matlab

Hello, I am trying to open an Excel spred***, save it
(changing formats from DBF to either XLS or CSV), and then
close Excel during execution of a Matlab function. But I
can't seem to get passed winopen(myfile). Has anyone ever
seen anything like this or know a simple way to do this?
