I forgot to say that the sound file is a .wav file with FS
of 44100 and NBITS of 16.

I'm new to Matlab (so apologies for a "simple" question for
proficient Matlab users).
I'm trying to write a script that reads a sound file of
about 300ms. This sound file has been cut out of a longer
sound in the central stable part of the sound (i.e. no
variations in amplitude). I would now like to apply a 10ms
"fade in" and 10ms "fade out" to the sound using two
different ways:
I would like to apply (a) a linearly rising 10ms and
linearly decreasing 10ms amplitude envelope to the sound
and (b) 10ms quarter-sine rising/decreasing envelope to the
original sound.
I'm sure this is easy but I'm stuck so any comments would be
greatly appreciated.
