Re: xPC + RS232 Asyncronous Receive

Tim,

This sounds like you may have some more fundamental problems
with your setup.

The slprj directory should be created in the current directory.
That is, the directory listed in the 'Current Directory' box at
the top of the MATLAB display. If you have that pointing to
C:\temp and it's still trying to create slprj in C:, then you
really need to call customer support. This is not an xPC Target
issue, but something much more fundamental.

Next, assuming you have the slprj issue solved.

After booting the target, what happens if you issue the
xpctargetping command? Does it return 'success'?

Have you tried running xpctest? Does that work?

I mentioned the null modem cable since you often will need this
to correctly connect to an external device. It's not just for
connecting host to target via the serial port. But first, make
sure you can successfully run xpctest.

Gordon,

Thank you for your help. I made another model that was very much like the tutorial you mentioned. After making the necessary configuration changes, the build process made further progress. I then received an error that the target was not able to be found. Now, I just want to clarify my goal and maybe you can tell me if using xPC + RTW is what I need to accomplish the task.

I am not trying to control an externial device (target) via the COM port. I just want to run a model to read the COM port at a fixed interval in Real Time. If I continue with this setup, will I be able to run a Simulink model in real time....not the "simulated time" that simulink models are usually run. Does that make sense?

Another issue, I returned to the lab today to find out that when attempting to build the same model, I get the following error (before getting to build process):
Error building Real-Time Workshop target for block diagram 'test2'. MATLAB error message:
Error using ==> rtw_create_directory_path.p>rtw_create_directory_path at 47
Error creating directory 'C:\slprj' : Access is denied

As I mentioned before, I am working on a university lab computer, but why is it creating the 'slprj' directly on the C:\ drive instead of C:\temp where the .mdl is? Is there a setting somewhere that I have not found that I need to specify a path?

Thanks,
Tim
