copy figure

Sometimes I get a failure when I try to copy a figure. The
Matlab command window shows
Warning: Failed in CreateCompatibleBitmap, last error code
00000057
In graphics\private\render at 142
In print at 264
In editmenufcn at 68
I can get my figures to copy by switching to a 'metafile'
option in 'Copy Options', but the fonts in the figure end
up too small when I do this, so I was really hoping to copy
as a bitmap so I can read the fonts. Does anyone know how
to avoid this failure?
Thanks, Tom
