Residual Variance Problem

Hi:
As we know, Residual Variance(RV below) can be decrible the
relationship between two vectors(A and B), and its value is between 0
- 1, 0 means that A =B.
Now if A and B are matrix. That is, A is M * D, M is the data number,
and each data has D dimension. B's size is also M * D. How can we
define the RV on A and B (ie, RV is defined on the whole data, not on
the vector selected from them)? And the RV's value is also between 0
- 1. Any reference website for introduction?
Thanks
