plot behavior in Matlab 7.1 on Linux

Hi,
I noticed a difference in behavior in the 'plot' command between
MATLAB 7.1 and previous versions of MATLAB running on Linux (Red Hat
9). In previous versions, calling 'plot' will create a figure window
if necessary, or update an existing one, but the mouse focus will
remain on the main MATLAB window. However, in MATLAB 7.1, calling
'plot' will transfer the focus to the figure window. Is this a
feature? One user in my organization has been relying on the
described behavior for the previous versions, so the change is a
little bit annoying for him. Also, if you have any workarounds to get
the previous versions's behavior in MATLAB 7.1, I'd really appreciate
it.
Thanks,
