Where is behavior AI now?

I am rereading Brooks, _Cambrian Intelligence_, again. It occurs to me
that artificial intelligence will be found in the decisions that switch
behaviors rather than the layers of behavior themselves. Anyone aware
of any recent progress on behavior based robotics as it applies to AI
advances? or it behavior reached a plateau as well?
