I don't actually want to control the Mac, just want to be able to access and edit my Filemaker Pro databases from home. The application (FileMaker)will be running on my home machine. Guess I'll have to go to FileMakers website and do some poking around. Thanks for your help Jim.

I want to be able to access a machine on our internal network remotely so I can access the database for FileMaker Pro that resides on that machine. I want to work with the database and save changes to it from home. We have a cable modem at work with a static IP address with a Linksys router connected to it. I've set up the router to forward all ftp requests to an ftp server on our internal network.

I've had good success using various VNC products for remote access. My current favorite on the PC is UltraVNC (google it, it's free). I know there are versions available for the mac as well. (maybe not Ultra, but other *VNC tools).
Install vnc server on the host machine & set up a strong password for access. Read the docs and find out what ports it wants to use. Configure your router to forward requests on those ports to the host computer's internal ip address. Install vnc viewer on your computer at home. Hit connect and enter the ip address of your router - and you're in control of your work computer from home.
