Re: 8 *** billboard

Recently, Papa Joe <Sorry> posted:

Anyone in the large format printing profession for billboard?

I've got to prep a job and I've got some specs from the printer ( CBS
outdoors) Basically I'm in photoshop 7.0 and I want to set up a
decent color profile.

CBS specs are:
Maximum 300% density
Dot 5% blow out
UCR (do not use GCR)
support solid rich blacks with 40% C or M if required

It's digital production not offset litho.
Size is 20.5"x 10.5" with 16 " radius round corners.

81 lb Coated outdoor opaque wet strengh blue back poster.
they are using a better grade paper than the normal 70 lb uncoated
equivalent paper.

So,
that's all the information they gave me.
I will not be able to contact them again job is due tomorrow at 5pm.

I'm wondering when I make a color profile in photoshop ?

After you receive a print of the output, and can measure the results with
your densitometer.

1) what do I set the Dot Gain?

I thought you said this is digital, not offset?

2) Black limit should be set to what?

Whatever results in less than 300% coverage. Your option.

3) is there any other considerations for this paper when color
correcting for this media?

How can you color correct if you don't have a profile for the output
device?

As for paper color, do you have a sample? If not, you're flying completely
blind. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.
