You need to do the following:
1. Calibrate your monitor using built in software like Calibration
Assistant or third-party software.
2. Save the images in TIFF or EPS.
3. Color correct these images using the curves command (see link
below).
4. Apply a color profile in Photoshop that is calibrated for your
output device (color printer).

Hi all, I'm new to this group so please bear with me.
I'm having problems with colour when opening up photographers' digital
images (usually RGB jpeg files straight from their cameras) in
Photoshop 5.5 to convert them to CMYK tiff files for magazine
reproduction. The resulting tiffs end up being darker and 'redder' than
the original files (as viewed in Picture Viewer). I'm running Photoshop
on Mac OSX (although, as it's version 5.5, I'm running it through
Classic).
I'm sure the problem is with my Photoshop Colour Settings, but I aren't
an expert and so aren't sure exactly what the settings should be.
I know some of you will say "talk to your printers", and I am trying to
set up a meeting - but I just wondered if anyone had a quick fix so I
can halt the problem sooner rather than later.
Any responses much appreciated!
