Are you are storing your final page layouts and/or ads in EPS format now,
and your vendor wants to switch to jpeg format (I'm not sure why your
database vendor would care, beyond the smaller size of the data in jpeg)?
If this is what you're doing, rather than just archiving your images in
EPS format, one difference between the two formats is that jpeg is a
bitmap format, which means that your text elements will be rasterized.
OTOH, if you are only storing the final version of your photos in the
database, there are jpeg settings that should have a minimal impact on the
image quality for newsprint uses.
