Pshop can't open "Tiff with unsupported color space"?

Got some images from a client via email. There sent in Tiff format.
Downloaded them and tried to open them with Photoshop. Got an error
saying (paraphrasing) "Photoshop is unable to these Tiff documents
because they use an unsupported color space". Anyone know what that
means.

I got the images to open by sending them a yahoo account and then
sending them back and then they opened just fine. Weird.
