VLC plays audio cd and DVD-Video:

If you mean by 'music DVD' to mean dvd with mp3 files:
[VLC, Media, Open Files...] and point to the mp3 files.

For mp3 files, it's better with a playlist and open the playlist with:
[VLC, Media, Advanced Open File] and point to the m3u file.
