Fixed! Notes for everybody to read...

I downloaded the latest version, and read the notes about this release. As it turns out, it was a bug in the configuration that I just happened to have, which was fixed under the new code; so I recompiled, re-checked /etc/samba/smb.conf file, routed the logins to the samba password file, and added the users there, mimicking the entries there, then I used smbpasswd for each user, and that was it! I am seriously thinking about writing some sort of assistance for newbies.

Thanks everyone that responded!

I have Samba running on SUSE Linux, and I have tried authenticating through LDAP, and smbpasswd; I turned on Kerberos, NIS, and can not get to validate users; I also tried server authentication (LDAP), User authentication SMBPASSWD, Group authentication, and none seems to work. If I turn on the guestok for testing, it allows seeing it, and accessing, but obviously not writing. I have read complete chapters of Samba Manual, and still can not get it to work right! On the Samba Client, I can not use the SMB info for Linux authentication. I have the workgroup/domain filled in; even if I change it to the server's domain, it does not allow me to use it.

I am thinking of recompiling Samba...The one I am using is the one supplied with SUSE Linux.

Any suggestions before I recompile? Does anyone have experience here? I also tried contacting the Samba team...with no luck! If I fix this issue, I am considering developing a configuration manual for beginners. I took a course on Linux and Unix administration, and even the teacher was not experienced with my problem, even though he was knowledgeable on Linux Security. This is ridiculous! If we want to attract newcommers to Linux, we need to fix these issues!
