Re: What is ACR standard? What does it mean for an Mammography Image that conformance to this standard?

Right; always use View Code Sequence (0054,0220) and forget about
View Position (0018,5101).

Hi Wayne

There is no ACR standard with respect to specific DICOM tags,
though the MQSA regulations and/or the ACR quality manual may
require that specific information be annotated on images
(regardless of which tag it comes from).

The IHE Mammo profile makes this clear, and you should validate
against both the DICOM standard and the additional requirements
in the IHE Mammo profile, which you can do with:

dciodvfy -profile IHEMammo filename

See:

http://www.ihe.net/mammo/

If you are creating mammo images from a product, I would be very
happy to take a look at them for you first.

Mammography Image that conformance to this standard?
Where can I get a copy of the ACR Standard? I heard that the View
Position tag (0018,5101) is required in the ACR Standard.
I have seem DICOM MG images with View Position tag (0018,5101). But
according to the DICOM Standard this is replaced by View Code Sequence
(0054,00220).
C.8.11.5.1.1 View Code Sequence
View Code Sequence (0054,0220) replaces the function of View Position
(0018,5101), and
describes the radiographic view of the image relative to the real-
world patient orientation as
described in Annex E.
In the DICOM Standard, the MG Image Module don't even have this DICOM
tag View Position (0018,5101).
So which standard, DICOM or ACR do you use to validate the MG image?
Thanks

Hi Dave:

Thanks for the information. No I am not creating mammo images. Our
product can use the DICOM tags View Position (0018,5101) and View Code
Sequence (0054,0220) to create textoverlays for display. But
sometimes the MG image has the tag View Position (0018,5101) and
sometimes does not. I want to know which DICOM tags View Position
(0018,5101) and View Code Sequence (0054,0220) I can depend on to
always be there for MG images.
I looked at the DICOM Standard and IHE Mammo Profile and it seems that
View Code Sequence (0054,0220) will always exist for MG images.

Thanks
