CFind works on the Heirarchical search model and in the case of the
Study model Study-Series-Instance. In order to specify a wildcard at
any level, the level above must be specified non-abiguously. In your
case Modality is a series level tag therefore you have to have Unique
tag at the Study level "Study Instance UID" resolved. If you do a
study level query with * for the Study Instance UID you are asking for
all the studies in the archive. The modality tag is getting ignored.
The only way around this problem is if the SCP you are querying
supports relational queries. If they support relational queries it
will be stated in their DICOM conformance statement. Unfortunatley
support for relational queries is not common. Some archives support
the Optional tag Modalities in Study, which is a study level tag. If
an SCP supports Modalities In Study for matching you may be able to
figure out a work around to your search problem.
