Hi again,

I'm running XP x64 and an Adaptec 29160N U160 controller. This
configuration runs fine. But I just picked up a new U320
controller,
an Adaptec 39320A and would like to install it obviously.

When I pull the old card and plug in the new, everything at BIOS
boots
just fine. I can access all the configuration menus for the
39320A.
The trouble is when XP starts to boot...it blue screens. Safe
Mode same
thing.
I am hoping I don't have to start from scratch and re-install the
OS.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Is it a driver issue?

What do you think, was XP issued before or after the 39320 came out.

Well Fuckert, if you had read my OP,

it said I'm running x64,

So?

which came out in '05.

Right, so?

So? Because YOU'RE the one who made the comment about XP coming out before
the 39320. I was just pointing out ill-informed you were.

So what do you think?

That it is a 50/50 chance whether that driver was missing or included.
The blue screen would probably have been the clue to that but you didn't
bother to tell what the bluescreen said.

Since you're a bit slow,

And you are a bit stupid in assuming that my question was a negative
comment.
Sounds like a confirmation that you felt caught on one of your trolls.

I'll answer it for you. The OS had the drivers onboard.

Right. See, you answered your original question just fine.
Which brings us to the point where we expect that you were just trolling
and
exactly got what you wished for.

I simply forced the driver install with the U160 in the system, then when
I
rebooted, I switched cards.

So what's wrong with just putting the card in and let windows sort it out.
Oh wait, nothing to troll about, right Larry?

Umm...that's what I did and got the blue screen. Man you're slow. What a
moron. What's so funny is you fancy yourself informed about this stuff, and
you're actually stupid as hell. Daytripper understood exactly what my issue
was and gave me a suggested solution. I did what he suggested and it
worked.

I'd say you're the troll, and not a very good one at that.

Thank you daytripper, *** you Folkert. I see you're still an ass.

Yep, and now everyone knows your (lack of) upbringing too. Oops!

Is there a way around it? Thanks in advance.

-Larry

Seems like there'd be no harm in approaching the problem as a
driver issue
until proven otherwise. I'd put the original card back in, fetch a
set of
installable drivers and install same, then shut down, put the new
card in,
reboot and see what happens next...

Thanks bud...that did it. I appreciate the help.

Now, if you don't mind me asking another question.

My cable is a 68 pin U160.
Would I benifit by upgrading it as well to a U320 cable?

Exactly as much as you did from the U160 to U320 controller change.

You are correct about the speed...for a single disk on a single channel.

For any amount of disks on any amount of channels with just standard PCI.

But this controller has two channels,

No help there.

the U160 had one.

Obviously no point in having two on a standard PCI bus.

And this has RAID 0,

Limited to only 110-120MB/s if you are lucky and at diminished
reliability.

and I picked it up for $70 (my 2nd HD is due to arrive Monday).

$100 out of pocket and still only 110-120MB/s bandwidth.

It was $79 including shipping, and I'll sell my 29160 for close to what the
39320 cost. And 110 MB/s is still better than my 75 MB/s I'm currently
getting. I have no problem with that.

Does that meet with your approval cum dumpster?

I can live with your stupidity, Larry.

And I can live with yours. But do try to keep up.
