SCSI Mailbox Commands

Thanks Moojit. I found some more information. It's not a mailgram but a
mailbox. This is an EMC and in one document, I found the following:
"ELS buffers are needed to support Fibre Channel Extended Link
Services. ELS buffers are also used for SLI-2 FCP buffers (one per FCP
command) and Mailbox commands."
I am trying to understand where Mailbox commands fit in with SCN and
FCP commands. What are Mailbox commands used for?
Thanks!

Anyone ever heard of a SCSI Mailgram? We had a problem with our SAN
this morning. The vendor's telling us that the Fibre switch sent an
invalid SCSI mailgram to the SAN. Can't seem to find any information on
mailgrams, though. What is it?
Thanks,
ChrisW
There is no such thing. Fibre Channel switches send out State Change
Notifications to nodes that have registered for these type of events. SCN's
are used as a plug-n-play mechanism of sorts to tell nodes
of new devices that have logged into the fabric. Some folks may refer to
these as Asynchronous Event Notifications (AEN's) as well.
