Thanks for the reply.
After installing SP2 and finding the issue, I did remove and reinstall the
scanner software, several times.
I agree that SP2 has been around for a long time and that is why I was a
little perturbed with HP Support that they didn't have a solution, other
than what I detailed in my original post. I know it will work without SP2
because I used it that way for several years.

SP2 has been around for a LONG time now, and there is no excuse for
problems with it. I would be inclined to remove and reinstall the
SCANNER, but nothing else. Installing the scanner when SP2 was already
installed may fix the problem.

I have been successfully using this scanner for several years on a
computer with WindowsXP without SP2. I finally got around to installing
SP2 and now the scanner will not work with the HP Director icon shortcut.
HP support suggests uninstalling scanner software and SP2 and then
reinstall the scanner software and retry HPDirector. I am reluctant to
go that route because I have also installed MSOffice Enterprise Suite
2007 and Internet Explorer 7, both of which require SP2. If I uninstall
SP2, how will it affect those two programs?
Has anybody had issues with the 4570c software and SP2? HP Support
thinks it may be because of the increased security provisions with SP2.
Thanks,
Richard
