ScanSoft's PaperPort hangs -- no gratis tech support



9 times out of 10, when I try to open my PaperPort10 Pro, it hangs after the splash screen appears.
I tried to download ScanSoft's Service Pack 1 -- which was necessary due to problems with their original code -- but instead of the downloaded patch, I only receive an error massage "404" from Scansoft and instructions to contact their tech support. But Scansoft does not have any available tech support that is gratis. ScanSoft charges for its email support.
I run WinXP, Service Pack 2 under 1 gig of memory.


Is this hanging a known problem with Scansoft's PaperPort? Is there a known fix?
Any help will be appreciated.


And before any of you invest in Scansoft products, be aware that Scansoft will charge you for email tech support, even if it is required to get the customer up and running.
