We have an HP 5000N LaserJet. For 5-6 years, it had been attached to
our P2P network via Cat5 cable.

Last week, the printer network card died, so I attached it to one of
the workstations on the net by parallel cable. Everything is working
just fine except every time I print anything that I get a pop-up
message from the taskbar telling me that I just printed something.

Is there a way to disable this message?

Thanks

No solution from me as I have my 5000GN still on the network, but a
good used network card for your printer is about $20-$30 or so.

600N is the lowest card you can get, but I would suggest a 610N card
for a happy medium.

OK, thanks. I'll check into that. The printer is actually printing
faster (less delay in starting) now that it's on the parallel port, so
I don't have a lot of motivation to go back to the net. I just wish I
could get rid of those damned pop-ups.
