hp 2550L printer and Vista USB problem

I have an HP color laserjet 2550L printer but it does not work with
windows Vista via usb connection.
Vista recognised it when I plugged the printer into a usb port but no
printer was installed under "Printers". If I try to install the
printer manually I see a message that usb printers are installed
automatically and there is no usb port if I try to continue.
Under system devices I noticed that the printer is refered with its
name and (DOT4) Under "IEEE 18... devices" .
Any help in troubleshooting the problem appreciated
Thanks in advance
.
