Hi,
I have 2 printers connected to a new Intel Core 2 Duo Computer running
Vista Home Complete.
One is a HP Deskjet 5160 which runs OK except for the HP driver which
has no Ink Level or Head Cleaning.
The other is a HP PSC 1610 which disappears every time it is turned
on.
The 5160 is set to turn on automatically, so it is left turned on and
it goes into standby
The 1610 shows up as an installed printer, but when I turn it on I get
a message that new device has been found and it install the drivers
and states that 1600 series is ready.
If I check the available printers the 1610 has disappeared.
I then have to disconnect the USB cable and reconnect and the driver
is installed again and the printer is able to be used.
The main problem is that it has lost all the settings that I had.
Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it
Thanks
DJT
I assume you are using the latest Vista drivers and that you have installed the
patch to prevent unexpected uninstalling of the printer.
Available from http://tinyurl.com/29k3oo
If so, when you installed the printer did you make sure that the cable was
disconnected from the printer until the installer asked you to connect the
printer?

Hi,
I have checked that I have the latest drivers on that web site.
The patch to prevent unexpected uninstalling applies only to network
connected printers and mine is connected by USB.
Downloaded and ran the software and it stated that it was not
applicable
I have occasionally had it work ok, but most times it disappears
still.
