This is one of those cases where Taliesyn is probally right for his
region, and Measekite's info is sadly out of date. First of all I have
no idea where to get the ip4200. the ip4200 is being replaced by the
ip4300. The ip5200 I believe, I don't know, but I believe is being
abondoned.

So, the fact that it's simply not on sale except for closeout and
surplus, you can't exactly put an exact price on it.
The cartridges, I will presently have to say, do cost $10 more per set
at office depot, so at this store the price is $2.00/unit on average.
However, the old cartridges were close to $53 at costco if you buy
tri-packs, which IIRC they did at least offer a cyan/magenta/yellow
pack. That's $4.00 more than costco.
Costcos cli-8s might be $17.80 each, i'm unsure as it's not clear
whether it's a single pack, or a double pack. That's well over $7.00
more per unit iif that's the right price, though i'll have to double
check my local costco.
Measekite as always is full of ***.
I can't agree that the cartridges cost more because of the chips and
leds, I have to say they cost more because canon wants them to cost
more, they cost 1/2 what they do in japan as they do here.
