Good Grief! Why are you using Netscape 4.01. It
isn't compatible with many sites. Get Mozilla's
Thunderbird and Mozilla Firefox. They are free,
and both have better security than the equivalent
Microsoft products. I gave up on Netscape and
switched to Mozilla 2-3 years ago. The only
problem was the long download with my very slow
connection, Install is easy, quick, and painless,
updates are small with short downloads.

The only website I use it for here in Australia is the Bureau of
Meteorology weather radar, and it works perfectly well. I prefer it for
email because it is simple and straightforward, and unlike later
Netscape offerings it does not continually thrust news in my face.

For banking, Centrelink (Aust Govt), and other secure sites as well as
Google I use Internet Explorer.

Will the stuff you recommend

1 work Ok on W98SE with 64 Mb RAM
2 Co-exist with Netscape and IE so I don't have to uninstall them
3 work with banking and other secure sites - 128 bit security?

It should be fine to use Thunderbird.
I'm using it right now on a Windows Me box, which is very close to W98SE. I haven't yet switched over from Internet Explorer to Firefox. The more Microsoft software I can be rid of the better I feel.

Yes, when AOL bought Netscape, Netscape went to hell -- like everything AOL does, they abuse their users.

Banking and Thunderbird aren't used together as far as I'm aware, so there should be no problem with interactions.

My experience with the early Thunderbird I'm using as a news reader vs. Outlook Express is that OE handles smoother -- TB is klutzy by comparison. TB isn't set up to execute code, so it isn't a good route for viruses to instantly trash your computer (Microsoft can be such stupid bastards!). OE files, when they're corrupted, can be virtually impossible to restore. I have not heard such a complaint about Thunderbird. I'm glad to have made the switch. Ironically, after having spent money to unsuccessfully get back three years of trashed messages in OE, the corrupted OE files were zipped into Thunderbird and resurrected in a flash. Perfect.
