The chipped carts refill just the same as the BCI-6 and BCI-3eBK. Once they
Those cartridges refill more or less the same as BCI3/BCI6 carts.
I still haven't done the research, unfortunately. But I gather that
this one has chipped cartridges, which could make it a little more
difficult. We'll see. I'm sure there's a way. ;-)
have registered as an empty cart, however, even when you refill them the
printer reads the chip, sees the cart as empty, and gives you dire messages
about ruining your printer. You can turn the warnings off. I don't know if
the storage of information in the printer would possibly cause Canon to
cancel your warranty, but if you were to get only a few refills before
printer failure (highly unlikely if using quality aftermarket inks) you
would still be money ahead. New OEM carts cost about $14 US - almost the
cost of another ip4200 - so it would be pretty hard to go wrong with
refilling as far as cost is concerned. In the past Canon would send you a
new printhead if you call customer service and report a clog or failed
printhead while under warranty. They didn't evaluate the printer or
printhead in question.
