Modify Canon Printer to accept DVD/CDs

I was told that Epson is the only company that is allowed to sell printers
in the US that will print on printable DVDs and CDs. I was also told that
quite often the printers from Canon, if sold in other countries have the
abilty to print DVDs and CDs. Apparently the only part missing from the US
printer is the slide to hold the DVD or CD while it is being printed and
that this part plus the missing software drivers can be obtained from Canon
suppliers in other countries.

Has anyone made this modification and if so would you please share your
experince with me.

Thanks

John
