Bob this ain't too far off topic, I have not yet tried it but how about filling
an empty and not yet burned out color cartridge with black in all 3 chambers? I
have a Deskjet 722C and would be interested in your input because when printing
B&W pictures they often come out tinted green or red. Thanks, GS

YOU SHOULD NOT LET THESE DICKHEADS JERK YOU OFF

It may be possible, but the results would not likely be very good. The DeskJet 722 is about 10 years old at this point and was never designed to be a photo printer. It would take some experimentation to get suitable dye load levels in the various chambers. Some driver tweaking would be required, it would probably be easier to just use the photo editing program to balance your color.

You would likely have much better B&W results with any of the recent DeskJet or Photosmart printers that support the #59 or #100/#102 grayscale cartridges. These printers are designed for photo printing, and the grayscale cartridge give excellent B&W prints. See the Photosmart 8050 at http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/18972-236251-64340-15100-64340-454865.html as an example.
