I only pointed out the facts...

HERE COMES DA SHMUCK WITH ANOTHER LONG EXCERPT

officaly you can not create boot
floppies from WinXP. You can download them from Microsoft. You were
totally unaware of this fact as you kept on bringing up 4 boot floppies
where XP requires 6. What you propose isn't supported, not booting to
DOS and making boot floppies from the CD-ROM. The last time I
installed windows from a dos session I did so from the dos prompt on
the Win98se CD-rom.

The issue you describe is limited to *some* socket 7, most socket 5,
and almost pre pentium machines, all of which were shipped with floppy
drives. Keep in mind that Win98 was the first boot CD-rom that
microsoft released.

You see, this is the problem getting your advice from PC-World. The
advice of using your floppy drive to diagnose problems with the CD
drive is sound, so long as you have one. New systems are often shipped
with out one. That's a fact. You can throw as many fits as you like
but this won't change the fact that that shiny new HP or Dell does not
have a floppy drive. You can boot from modern media, this isn't a
problem. The floppy is dead. Get with the program and have an
inspirational day.
