Does the driver care about the bus?
In another Internet discussion venue the question has arisen whether the
driver written for a PCI SCSI card (and not updated since PCI-Express
was introduced) will work with a PCI-Express card using the same chip.
One person says "No way! The driver has to be written with PCI-Express
in mind." I say that I am not so sure, based on the fact that the SNAP
video drivers don't seem to care whether a card is AGP or PCI-Express,
as long as the chip is supported, He says, "Then they must have written
the driver to support both buses."
To be specific, we are discussing the AICU320.ADD driver from Adaptec
and their 29320/39320 Ultra 320 SCSI cards.
Any words of wisdom?
BTW, how much faster than a 32-bit PCI card is a 1x PCI-E card anyway?
