Re: Intel 945 mobo and OS/2?

OK Peter - more info here maybe ..

Has anyone tested or has an Intel 945 motherboard working with OS/2 MCP2 latest? Key issues would be the video chip compatibility with the Snap 3.18 last driver package

The SNAP318 readme lists the i945G, i945GM chipsets in the Certified Graphics Chips section.

and the NIC chipset to work with the Intel
Pro100/1000 network drivers which do work well with the Intel 915GAVL/GEVL motherboards here for me.

It may be worth checking the GenMac package for nic support http://genmac.netlabs.org/en/site/index.xml

The on-board audio is another question. A lot of work is going on now with with the Uniaud development group at the Netlabs site. For the first time at least a blip of audio from the system sounds is available from the on board audio of the Intel 915GAVL/GEVL boards here. But no mixer ability yet here for Unimix and UnimixPM though I'm guessing that will be solved in the future. What I am hoping is that the 945 series motherboards will be able to carry that work forward.

Thoughts?

As regards audio I think you are, like a few other people, awaiting the release of a HDA capable version of uniaud.

Pete

It my be that one really long term motherboard and hardware support vector for all of us in OS/2 is with the specialized industrial computer board manufacturers. As part of this vector, I'm going forward with updating my cull industrial relay rack development system linear power supply chassis units as well.

Enroute for testing which is fully expected to work with all of the MCP2 latest level code as well as what I would guess is mid through latest eCs work, from my vendor of many years now, Modular Industrial Solutions, is their latest 9455 SBC for one of my cases. Standard Intel 945G video chipset, Intel 82573V PRO1000 NIC chip, Realtek® ALC655 AC97 audio support via daughter slot mounted boardette, full serial port and bi-directional parallel port operations, 10 year life level expectancy for clock and BIOS lack of failure and although the published specs don't show it, even full floppy diskette support for 5-1/4" and 3-1/2" up through 2.88MB diskettes are right on the board! Plus four SATA drive connections... and six USB 2.0 interfaces.

Of course we will have to test and verify .. but the expectations are that compatibility problems won't be there. In that the industrial hardware game is far more critical as to long term availabilty and support, if this, the latest of their work is anything like my previous ten years of experience with them, what I am willing to risk for the money to test and report on might be of serious help here.

I'll post the results of the project when I know them.

Thanks to you and all of you folks still working with OS/2. It actually is still very much in use for critical application work, I suspect, far more than a lot of others might like to think of it. This is ten more years of hardware support with all the linear power supply rack cases and so on for me, for example.

From here we'll go toward the smaller board offerings for desktop possibility outside of the expected Intel earlier thoughts and report back what looks like might be an alternate vector here as well.
