Peter, I have a lot of respect for you tackling this
job, but I would not be surprised to find some of it is
practically impossible ... after all Mozilla stopped
supporting Win98 because of Cairo.
I think I only deserve your respect once it's at least running...
There is nobody left who knows the font stuff in real
detail. The people here can help you with some bits of
it, but for hardcore stuff you are probably on your own.
(You could try contacting some of the IBMers who posted
here before, but again they will acknowledge their
limits)
I don't think that for the moment many details are needed. Once we get
it to display plain ASCII with some default font in a default size we
can slow go from there. The problem is more that I couldn't even figure
that basic part out. Now I have gotten some hints from the Mozilla guys,
so perhaps
It would all be a lot easier if we had a native OS/2 font backend
implemented in the cairo library. Doodle originally chose the
Freetype/FontConfig backend because it was there and easy to use, but I
think that now it isn't enough any more. But I'm not really sure about
that.
