Re: Peer Logon Problems-HELP!

I uninstalled Peer and reinstalled it along with an uninstall/reinstall of TCP/IP 4.3 (which also updates MPTN). I was able to logon using the default userid/password, but not the parameters I entered during setup. I then went into the "Sharing & Connecting" folder and setup the userid/password I wanted as well as establishing Shares. I can now logon under the userid/password I wanted all along. However , in the "Network Account" dialog box it shows "Logged-on domain: None". I did enter a desired domain name during set-up and IBMLAN.INI shows the domain I entered (btw, is capitalization important for machine name and domain name?). And I cannot get another machine (running WinXP) to be recognized by clicking on the "Refresh" button under the "Connections" tab. Teh Win box also cannot see the OS/2 box.

After much searching and reading I found a newsgroup thread taht suggested that the Peer setup bothches things if the default values are changed. Using PEERINST.EXE in IBMLAM\INSTSALL (I could only find INSTALL.EXE) supposedly set them up correctly. So I ran the install from the directory and went through the configuration. At the end I got an error message that referred me to the file IBMLANER.LOG which contains:

[01-22-06 10:59:54 F:\ibmlan\install\LANINST.PGM F]
[11:01:41 Error(s) were found during response file validation.]
[The last file to modify these keywords was:
F:\IBMLAN\IBMLAN.INI]
[ Section = peer
    Keyword = SRVCOMMENT
      Value =
Error = LSI0210 - The value is not valid.]

I have also read that there was a bug in PEER (level IP08603) that prevents connections from being made automatically at startup. So, would I benefit from a Peer upgrade ( I have Warp v4.52 available)?

Or are there other thngs to be done first? I feel I'm almost there.

As always, any help greatly appreciated!

I've been trying to get OS/2 peer networking set up in my home for over a year now with no success. I want to be able to access files/printers on the desktop while running OS/2 from 2 laptops running WinXP and connecting through a wireless router to which is connected a cable modem. In a fit of pique I uninstalled all network support and TCP/IP 4.3on the desktop that has OS/2. I then ran Install from my MCP4.51 CD which allowed me to install File/Print Services and TCP Services.

For File/Print Services: I entered the workstation name (call it Desktop); entered a description; made sure "Install LAN Server Administration" was unchecked; checked "Install Sharing"; checked "delete user ID database (NET.ACC)".

For User ID/Password:set UserID to "justme"; password: "myselfandi"

For TCP/IP: unchecked "DHCP Server is available on LAN"; entered an address value of 192.168.10.1 and subnet mask of 255.25.255.0; entered a host name (Desktop); left all other fields blank.

Network Adapters: Installed the correct adapter and bound TCP and NetBIOS to it.

After reboot I installed TCP/IP 4.3 from Vol.8 of Software Choice and after running through the TCP/IP Configuration (LAN-Local) I got a working internet connection.

I configured the peer services: entered Workstation Name (Desktop); entered Domain Name (call it Home); checked "start Requester automatically";checked "All adapters do not use 34-bit DMA"; turned Peer and Messenger Services ON; LAN Services Adapter settings seemed right;configured First Failure; applied the changes.

However, when I go to Connections/Network/Sharing and Connecting the Requester starts and I get a message that "one or more of my shares failed to start" (no doubt from an earlier attempt when I got Peer at least partially working; I enter my user ID and password in the dialog box, I get a message saying "Logon attempt unsuccessful". If I click the Help button I get a SYS3175 error.

Is there something I missed? Or is there something left over from previous installs that is creating this problem? I really want to get this resolved!

Any help gratefully accepted.
