I also tried with WarpVision GA on eCS 1.15 and it plays the WMV-HD videos and DIVE output just fine, though without
audio
On my slower machine WV will play only the first few seconds
of my MPEG2-HD files. There is some frame skipping and A/V is
out of sync. Then it will simply stop. I think, an older version
did a better job, but also stopped after a few minutes. I have
not tried what happens on the faster machine.
The system load is identical when watching a DVD.
That might be true on fast systems.
And with DIVE the system seems to be much more stable.
But you don't get smooth edges on scaling. Take a closer
look at diagonal lines or text at the beginning or end of
a movie...
BTW, the DIVE code in WV seems to be broken for years now.
Did you notice, that sometimes other windows covering the
video window (for example it's own context menu) will be
partially overpainted ? This usually happens, when the video window is sized so, that it does not have the same
aspect ratio as the video itself i.e. the lower left corner
of the active video is not identical with the lower left
corner of the window.
On my desktop under MCP using an ATI Raedon 8500 with snap driver, WV works fine using warp overlay; on my T22 under ECS1.2 using the built in S3 Savage chipset and snap driver only DIVE will work and playback is jerky with poor sound synchronization and the other defects you described.
On the same systems the Warp vision "latest" version distributed in June 2005 installed over the January 2005 complete version plays perfectly using warp overlay with the exception that the picture is about 10% too wide, i.e., the aspect ratio is about 4.4:3 instead of 4:3. GA has fixed the aspect ratio problem on the desktop and over corrected on the lap top. Apparently it has also broken other things.
