In response to your earlier posting: while my audio may start
looping with some apps, it never hangs my system. I just kill
whatever's playing & that's it. OTOH, I've never let something
play for 2+ hours - I probably should.
This makes me wonder if we are seeing the same problem, as when my
sound starts looping my system is hung to the point that only a
reset/poweroff is possible, I will see if I can test playing an ogg
stream using the experimental FireFox build. If I hit the same
problem even with your code I will know we are dealing with different
issues.
There are lots of videos (in no particular order) at tinyvid.tv.
Two radio stations that I use for testing are:
http://wbur-ogg.streamguys.com:80/wburlive.ogg
http://vorbis.nm.cbc.ca:80/cbcr1-toronto.ogg
Here's an easy stress test: while a stream is playing in one tab,
open another tab & load a (relatively) long page. Now, drag the
scrollbar thumb up & down quickly & repeatedly. The audio should
drop out momentarily several times but it shouldn't start looping.
I did a little bit of testing of this yesterday evening and this
morning and it appears that the measures you are taking to avoid
buffer underflow in your player appear to avoid the hangs I have been
seeing. As opposed to trying the above noted streams I tested a few
others. While I had difficulty keeping a connection running with some
of them I did manage to keep one playing for over 2..5 hours, which is
over half an hour longer than I have been able to use mplayer to play
a stream.
Given this experiment it seems likely you and I are seeing different
aspects of the same underlying problem. Am I correct in assuming you
have contacted Paul Smedley about this so he can see if something
similar can be implemented in the UniAud driver? Would you consider
contacting KO Myung-Hun to see if this can be incorporated into the
OS/2 - eCS port of mplayer? If not, would you consider doing so or
allowing me to suggest he contact you about it, assuming that Paul
Smedley indicated there would be problems incorporating it into the
UniAud driver?
