First question. Do you have access to the SLPR package via what was
Software Choice/Passport Advantage?

The answer to this is necessary before giving appropriate directions.

I do have the SLPR package. I used it in connecting to the same
printer with the D-Link print server I had a few months ago -- that
worked quite well for a few weeks until it malfunctioned. I have not
had good experience with D-Link. The SLPR port is still available in
the Printers folder as an available "New Port".

In the meantime, by the way, I have got tantalizingly close to getting
the printer to run with the H-P JetDrive print server using the H-P
JetAdmin program for OS/2....

AIUI, HP long ago discontinued (and removed from its servers) the
JetAdmin program for OS/2 on the grounds that OS/2 now includes
everything necessary.

With my Color Laserjet 4500-DN, I had to use the printer panel to set
the network address (192.168.1.4) for use with OS/2. The JetAdmin
program enables doing this from the desktop. When I first set up the
printer, I installed the win version of JetAdmin on the other OS's
partition and and looked at once or twice. I have never used it nor
started it since, just printed jobs to the network printer at the
aforementioned address on those rare occasions that other OS gets used.
If you select High Performance or LPRPORTD Compatible and need to undo
it, click on the "default" button.
