First question. Do you have access to the SLPR package via what was
Software Choice/Passport Advantage?
The answer to this is necessary before giving appropriate directions.
I do have the SLPR package. I used it in connecting to the same
printer with the D-Link print server I had a few months ago -- that
worked quite well for a few weeks until it malfunctioned. I have not
had good experience with D-Link. The SLPR port is still available in
the Printers folder as an available "New Port".
In the meantime, by the way, I have got tantalizingly close to getting
the printer to run with the H-P JetDrive print server using the H-P
JetAdmin program for OS/2. (This with help from another user.) At
present, the situation is as follows:
Using other H-P software, I can print to the printer from a Win2k
machine, so I know that hardware is functional, the print server is on
the network, and it communicates with the printer. In order to achieve
this result I had to change the USB mode from the default "Auto" to
"Bidirectional" (which probably saves the print server some thrashing
about to decide what is the right mode), and change the data rate from
100Hz to 10Hz. These changes were needed apparently because of
limitations of the Brother printer (H-P likes to fine-tune its
equipment to work with other H-P equipment).
On OS/2, JetAdmin has made a "H-P Port", and this is associated with
the printer object. JetAdmin is unable to find the
print-server/printer combination, and claims that no such thing
exists. At this point I am stuck. It would be very nice to get over
this last step. But I'm up for anything that will let me print.
