Re: HP LaserJet P2015dn driver?

You can use the driver for the LASERJET.HP Laserjet 4Si.

I don't know if this is the best choice, but at least it works
for me with a P2015dn and I can print dualside...

Thank you very much. It seems to work very well, with two exceptions:

1. I am unable (or I just cannot figure it out) how to print dual
side -- print on both sides. How did you do that? The two-sided
option in the Job Properties does not seem to have any effect, and
in fact, I cannot seem to save any of my selection when I click on
the "Save" button. An immediate return to the job properties shows
nono of my selections still selected.

Sorry I don't know, should work like this.
You could try to change the 'job-settings' from the printer-settings
(and not from the print-dialog-settings) to two-side and see if this
makes a difference.

BTW. I use version 30.827 of the laserjet drivers.
Are you shure you use the laserjet and not the postscript driver for
the printer?

2. Wordpro and other types of printing works okay, but I cannot
seem to get any font control with I use DeScribe.

sorry, I don't know DeScribe.

(snip)

I could not get the pin.exe (including a new one referenced on this
gewsgroup) to process the ppd file contained on the HP installation disk.

The 'HP installation disk' of the printer I bought did not contain
a ppd file for german or english, The only ppd file I found was

\Drivers\Win98_ME\Catalan\hpb20154.ppd

So I first had to extract the ppd file (for german) from one of the
cab files of windows-version of the driver. (I installed the driver
on some Windows-XP computer and then copied the ppd file from there)

It simply says that access was denied, and the discussion in this
newsgroup indeicates that I need to do such things as "join EAs", and
that is way past my level of competence. In any case, so far I have not
had any requirement for Post Script printing, but I would like to have it
as an option is someone could explain the process in lay terms.

I now tried with the enhanced versions of ppdenc.exe and pin.exe but
I still had no luck. Settings page not available and lucide crashes when
trying to select the printer with the 'pin-version' of the driver.

Perhaps you have more luck. The how-to is in the readme of the
driver package. What's missing is the step to join the EAs.

From command line enter 'dir'

you get something like:

...
31.01.05 12.20 809810 0 pscript.drv
31.01.05 12.18 18968 0 pscript.ea
31.01.05 12.17 56715 0 pscript.hlp
...

The 4th column is the size of the EAs.
If you have 0 there, then you have to join them first with

eautil pscript.drv pscript.ea /J

the result from next 'dir' should look like this:

...
31.01.05 12.20 809810 18968 pscript.drv
31.01.05 12.17 56715 0 pscript.hlp
...

As already told, the other steps are described in the readme
of the driver.
Perhaps you have more luck. If something fails it's better to
post the _exact_ error message rather then
'It simply says that access was denied'

Good luck
Franz
