Since ten minutes ago I am now seeing different cursors in application
windows in which it is possible to enter text, plus also the main window of
Firefox. For example, the I-beam cursor in AE or the Compose window of
Pronews, has what looks like a little briefcase at about five o' clock, and
a little distance away. In Firefox, when the cursor is a pointing hand, the
briefcase, if that's what it is, is also present. I have never seen this
thing before.
What is this? What did I do to produce it? What must I do to unproduce it?
What is it good for?
You probably accidentally right clicked on some object and clicked
'Pickup' instead of (say) Delete. That picks up an object and allows you
to manipulate stuff until you choose to drop it somewhere. The purpose
is drag and drop where you can see source and destination at the same
time.
Right click on an object (not a folder, but a program object, say) and
select 'Cancel Drag'.
Bob's right that it indicates that "Pickup & Drop" is in use. However,
Stan probably got it by an accidental Alt-MB2 (i.e. Alt+right-click).
To cancel, just do Alt-MB2 again while over a WPS folder window
(e.g. the Desktop) or any DragText-enabled window (only the WPS and
DragText ever implemented this).
If you actually want to use this facility, it's Alt-MB2 to pickup and
Ctrl-MB2 to copy & drop or Shift-MB2 to move & drop.
Now I understand that it's a satchel, not a briefcase. =;-/8
Thanks to Bob and Rich for the information. And THANK you for calling that
button "MB2" rather than "Right click"; transposing "Right" and "Left"
mentally in documentation can become confusing at times, even for one who
has been lefthanded for a long time.
True, most people are righthanded and therefore are not confused. Most
people are also Windows users.

How to convince others that you are tolerant and nonviolent: throw grenades
and firebombs, blow up schoolbusses and pizzerias, burn buildings,
decapitate those you can't convince, and in general, exhibit your
narrow-minded bloodthirstiness for all to see -- and tell them you're doing
it for God.
