Re: New inkjet printer wanted

My HP DeskJet 950c printer just died (or rather, the cost of the cure is
comparable to replacement).

So I am looking for a new printer, and I would much prefer a Canon,
since the cost of ink is significantly lower than for HP, Epson, and
Lexmark. Two models appear interesting: the Pixma iP5000, and the Pixma
iP6600d, both called photoprinters.

Question: The OS/2 omni drivers include one for the Canon i950. Will
this driver work for either of these two Canon Pixma printers?

Question: Does anyone here have OS/2 experience with either of these
printers? If so, what are your recommendations?

I might add that the iP5000 is supposed to be better at text printing
(which I need), while the iP6600d is supposed to be better on photos.
The iP5000 seems to be similar to the older i960, using the same ink,
but with higher resolution. The iP6600d uses newer inks, has still
higher resolution.

FWIW, I use a Canon i960, with the i950 driver, and it works well. I
have also heard that the pixima 4000 (I think) works with the same
driver. I can't comment on anything newer. I can also comment, that
Canon seems to be one of the few manufacturers that seems to maintain
a certain amount of compatibility over different models, but I can't
guarantee that that is still true.

Hope this helps...
