I think 2.1.4 is the latest. It has been purged from SWC.

I tried copying individual files with long names from the folders that would not
copy as a whole, and there was no problem. Clearly the error message was a red
herring.

I tried xcopy and it copied 3 files before issuing sys1693 (the system cannot
create the directory).

When I created the directory structure on the DVD and copied only files, it said
the EAs were being discarded but the files copied at a reasonable speed.

I tried a DVD-RW and "DVD-Tools" claimed to have successfully formatted it, but
chkdsk said otherwise. A system format was necessary.

The same problem with creating directories on the fly whilst copying seems to
exist. This makes DVD unsuitable for backup media.
