The only relevance of Stan to this entire issue is that he's a
typical regular participant in this newsgroup. His name came up,
but it could have been any one of us. In the mind of our resident
idiot, everyone is an adversary of the OS/2 Guy.
(That's probably not classifiable as paranoia, by the way. If we
recognised him walking down the street then most of us would be
strongly tempted to kick the *** out of him. I've seen newsgroup
pests in other groups, but Larry Chauvet qualifies as being among
the very worst.)
Likewise, Bob St. John is not one of The Bad Guys. He replies
occasionally when the lying becomes intolerable, but most of the
time he, like the rest of us, ignores the provocation.
You might notice that I've included the string [FUD4] in the
subject line of this posting. That's a convention that OS/2
newsgroup readers have adopted to indicate posts that are about
"the problem". It's not intended to say that either you or I
are fudsters. It simply means that this is yet another posting
about a subject that has become boring to the majority of readers.
Since it's easier to filter on such a string, postings like this
one are seen only by newcomers who might have trouble following
the cast of characters. (And, of course, by those who don't filter.)
>If only one ceases attacking, attacks from the other continue.
Experience shows us that attacks from one of the sides will continue
regardless. Thus, the only solution is for the innocent person to
avoid the temptation to reply. That leaves a one-sided "conversation"
that most people filter out. If ever you do see a need to reply,
use the [FUD4] marker.
>I also know that the OS/2 guy has given me good advice and has done so
>since about 1998. So I don't really care about his mental state (and
>he shouldn't care about mine) unless it interferes with other things.
There was a time in the distant past when he gave good advice, but
these days it's rare. His mental state has deteriorated to the
point where it does interfere with other things.
By the way, he stole the handle "The OS/2 Guy" from another person
(Doug Azzarito) who is no longer around but who was very helpful when
he was, so it's even possible that the good advice you remember
came from someone else.
