On an T42, i have seen that the BIOS reserves 2 KiB of memory for
'Stack', but never uses it. Maybe could write an driver to free that.
Recommend to use McAfee Associates only useful program PROVIEW to
look at it..

For the other ROM areas, in the T42 BIOS there exist an option to
disable
network boot rom, USB device eumlation and maybe others, that all
'waste' UMB address space. You could also try to force certain
regions to be considered free to map memory in them:
MEM_INCLUDE_REGIONS=d000-dfff
