Well, simple doesn't mean small. :-)
Here's a quick example:
- Doing research to buy a new car.
- Planning a vacation. I might link to some hotels reservation web
sites, attach some screenshots from Google Maps , quick notes about
interesting places to visit, etc.
- Building a new PC. Quick pics showing which jumpers to configure,
links to drivers, etc.
....
etc.
All these things are just simple notes that in the past I would've
just wrote down on paper, but instead, I can now save some trees and
organize them electronically in a single application.
It actually fits even better at work, where I can replace my logbook
with something electronic. In that case, I do need a running log
showing everything I've tried (even if it fails) and it does make
sense for everything to be all in one that can be searched or archived
for later.
I know HTML very well, but I hate frames :-). They look great, but
they're a pain for me to actually navigate. At any rate, I don't see
how frames saves me from either maintaining 1 large file or multiple
small ones.
Oh well, I'll keep looking for the "perfect" option.
Thanks,
Isaac

[HTML for notes]
What it lacks, and what I really like, is a search & organization
feature.
You talked about notes, not about your complete personal dictionary!
If you've used Evernote, Lotus Notes Journal or even the little IBM
Works Notepad,
I haven't, but had spend some days for Works.
you can organize it into specific categories. You could wrangle
something like that in WordPro as well (thanks to its wonderful
division/section tabs and a table of contents).
With HTML, it would have to be one giant HTML file.
Just create frames and that drawback won't apply anymore. Apparently,
you still have to learn that language. But the WYSIWYG-working HTML
editors don't presume to learn that.
that's like maintaining my own mini-web site, which I don't want to
do).
I don't recommend to use a CMS for that. ;-) IMO, already using a word
processor for notes is overkill.
Maybe I don't understand what you mean by "notes"?
