Oh. :-) As you noticed most of us would automatically use a much lower
bpi.

So would I. The document was rather low quality and it *seemed* better
at the higher dpi, but it was an experiment...

I ended up with 300x300, scanned directly to TIFF 1-bit. The full
document comes out at 3-4MB.

BTW, which pdf were you refering to? On a guess, I grabbed
ml1-macro-processor.pdf which is nowhere near that large, but it does have
wavy pages.

That one came direct from the ACM archives. The one I was referring to
(still the 15MB version online as I've been sidetracked by installing
OS/2 on my wife's new PC) is the one on GPM.
