Now that there's a 'Warpvision 1.0 GA' out, though, I downloaded and installed it (along with the set of windows codecs) and was surprised at how little improvement there has been in capabilities from 8/04. I thought this project was undergoing active development but it seems pretty stagnant. The user interface is essentially the same and most of the same flaws, bugs, and limitations are still there. More suprising is that some capability in the old version is no longer working in the '1.0 GA.' For example, the old WV can play some .mov video files, although poorly. The GA cannot even start playing them.
WV GA1.0 does a fairly good job here with lots of different media types - including .mov
I agree. I was just disappointed that it had not improved in two years. As far as .mov, some play and some don't, probably the newest. Actually, if the .mov's are really old, there's even a native OS/2 player 'Quicktime' that will play them.
I suspect that there are a few variables involved such as:-
Which version of Odin are you using?
6 December 2002. That build seemed to be the high water mark for Odin but if there is a build that you recommend, I'll give it a shot.
and is there a config.sys LibPath entry for the \odin\system32 directory?
yes.
Do you have the current libc library dll files installed?
Yes.
Are you using SNAP or WarpOverlay? - if using an overlay.
Snap.
If you installed over an existing WV installation did you delete the video2.ini file before starting WV GA1 ?
I just installed it fresh so the video2.ini was whatever it created.
Maybe all of the WV effort has been going intomaking the browser plugin work
Never had that working.
Mozilla based browsers can use something called MediaPlayerConnectivity instead of the plugin http://membres.lycos.fr/sethnakht/
I cannot say that it produces streaming media here - more like st-st-stuttering media - but it does work better than the plugin.

Pete
which is something I didn't even look atbut in the nuts and bolts of just playing different types of video files on the desktop, the 1.0GA is still alpha software, even if they call it GA. I uninstalled it and went back to the elderly August, 2004 build. It actually plays more content than the 'new' and at least I know, by now, where most of its quirks are.
